Mr. McElhaney was a Veteran and Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy, having served during World War II. He was a proud member of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) community since the mid 50's and retired in 1968 after five years as an EOD Instructor at the EOD School in Indian Head, MD. He also worked at Indian Head as the Manager of the Missile Propulsion Maintenance School and retired on disability in 1972.

He enjoyed water sports and while in the Navy he acquired diving skills in scuba and hard- hat . He loved spending time with family and friends.

Son of the late Neal Rex McElhaney and the late Dorothy Marie Dennis McElhaney. Predeceased by his parents.

Survived by his wife of 53 years, Lottie Louise Chestnut McElhaney; his children, Neal Rex McElhaney, Jr., Kelly Marie McElhaney Lowther, John D. Hardee, Jr., Sandra L. Guarini, Michael D. Hardee, and Kathy R. Hardee. Also survived by 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Gathering: Saturday, September 3, 2011 from 1-2PM with a Memorial Service at 2PM at Raymond Funeral Chapel, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646. Clergy: Rev. Mark Roberson Interment: Private.
