John Mathews Halloran, 71, of Waldorf, MD, died July 16, 2011, at Civista Medical Center, La Plata, MD. Born October 19, 1939, in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Matthew Valentine Halloran and the late Christine Mathews Hershberger.

Mr. Halloran served in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1961. He was the owner of Colonial Towing and Sunoco Gas Station in Waldorf, MD. He enjoyed vintage cars and was an accomplished private pilot. He was also a black belt in martial arts and enjoyed working at the Maryland State Police as a VSI (Vehicle State Inspector) from 2001 to 2009. He was devout Christian and was a member of Grace Community Church of Southern Maryland.

Predeceased by his parents.

Survived by his son, Timothy Halloran of Asheboro, NC; daughters, Kathy Halloran Wissman (Ray) of Fairfield, PA; Karen Halloran of Jessup, MD; brothers, Richard "Dick" Halloran (Letty) of Oakton, VA; Valentine Halloran of Tulsa, OK. Also survived by three grandchildren, Johnathan Tyler Halloran, Sarah Halloran and Ryan Halloran.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 21, 2011, from 5PM to 8PM at Raymond Funeral Chapel, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646. Funeral Service will be Thursday, July 21, 2011, beginning at 7PM at Raymond Funeral Chapel. Rev. Tim Benson and Rev. Tom Gill will officiate. Interment will be Friday, July 22, 2011, at 1PM at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD.
