Charles Henry Swann, was born on February 3, 1933 in Marbury, MD to the late James Clarence Swann, Sr. and the late Dorothy Mae (Hart) Swann.

Peacefully, on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at his home in Marbury, MD, surrounded by his family, Charles transitioned from this earthly life to life eternal.

Charles was educated in the Charles County Public Schools. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. After he was honorably discharged, he continued to serve his country for an additional 35 years as an employee for the federal government at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Indian Head, MD. Charles retired in 1986 and spent his free time fishing, bowling, golfing, participating in gun clubs and spending time with family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughters, Sharon Swann and Jackie Colbert, son, Ledru Swann, sisters, Virgie Swann Thomas and Alice Roberta Swann and his first wife, Roxie D. Swann.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 15 years, Peggy Swann, children, Charles Michael Swann (Deborah) of Marbury, MD, Claudette Swann (the late Ledru) of Waldorf, MD, Lisa Swann of Baltimore, MD, Ivy Swann of Rison, MD, Glenn Swann (Ronica) of Brandywine, MD, Kelvin "Ricky" Adams of La Plata, MD, DeWayne Swann (Ann) of Hollywood, MD, Johnny Abney (Vicki) of Great Mills, MD, Larry Abney (Chrissy) of Spotsylvania, VA and Laura Montgomery Yates. Charles also reared granddaughter, Samantha Moorehead (Richard). Also surviving are 30 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, aunt, Evelyn Isadore Barbour, cousin, Mildred "Millie" Hungerford (Robert "Bobby") and a host of other relatives and friends.

Viewing, Thursday, May 19, 2011 from 6:00pm until 9:00pm and on Friday, May 20, 2011 from 8:00am until time of Service, 9:00am in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland. Interment, Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, Maryland.
