Eliza Herbert-Davis, 90, of Charlotte Hall, MD died May 15, 2011 at the Genesis Elder Care Center in Waldorf, MD. Born March 23, 1921 in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of James Washington Herbert and Agnes Kennedy.

Eliza graduated from St. Mary's Seminary in St. Mary's City and attended Strayers Business College in The District of Columbia. On April 24, 1943 she married J. Byron Davis, Sr. She went to work for the Board of Education under Miss Lettie Dent. Later she worked for the Village Medical Center in Mechanicsville for doctors Guyther, Berube and Mossman, founders of the center. Eliza retired after 18 years working as an executive secretary for SMECO. During her lifetime she was a loving mother and grandmother and also a loving and concerned "adopted Mom" to man teens and young adults.

Predeceased by her husband and a sister, Julia Frances Forbes.

Survived by children, Joseph Byron David, Jr (Ruth) of Bakersfield, CA, Ann Collins May (Joseph C. May -recently deceased) of Charlotte Hall, James Kennedy Davis (June) of Charlotte Hall and William Lewis Davis of Charlotte Hall; grandchildren, Joseph Byron Davis, III of Bakersfield, CA, Shannon Kimberly Davis of TX, Bill F. Collins, JR. (Mila) of Redmond, WA, Joseph Louis Collins, Sr. (Kim) of Charlotte Hall and David E. Williams; great grandchildren, Robb Collins, Mark Collins, Joey Collins, Maria Collins, D.J. and Jace Williams and her loving dog, Jack.

The family will receive friends for Eliza's Life Celebration on Wednesday, May 18 from 5 - 8:00p.m. at the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Rd., Charlotte Hall, MD where prayers will be held at 7:00p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at 10:00a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Mechanicsville, MD. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery, Helen, MD.

Pallbearers will be Louis Collins, Joey Collins, David Willliams, Sean "Pudge" O'Grady, Timmy Quade and Bill Donzie.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Immaculate Conception Church, P.O. Box 166, Mechanicsville, MD or Mechanicsville Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 15, Mechanicsville, MD 20659.
