Proctor, Francis Vernon (Age 57) of Indian Head, Maryland.

Francis "Vernon" Proctor, mostly known as Vernon, departed this life on April 9, 2011 at home in Indian Head, Maryland, to join his mother, father and brothers, Emanuel, James "Milton", Theodore Morris and James Bernard "Billy" in heaven.

Vernon was born November 10, 1953 in Charles County, Maryland to Morris and Agnes Proctor. He was educated in the Charles County Public School System. While in high school, he held the record for pole vaulting for seven years. He graduated in 1971.

Vernon started working for the National Park Service in Fort Washington, Maryland in 1973 and after working there for 37 years he retired in January 2011.

Vernon was the all-around handyman. He loved to build and fix things. He made frames, clocks and furniture and also restored furniture. He was an all around "Mr. Fix It".

Vernon loved to spend time with his family, especially his only child, Shanell. He always played around and joked with everybody and had stories for days, so when you were around him you were always entertained.

He was a diehard Redskins fan. He loved to shoot pool and was in multiple pool leagues, winning numerous trophies and awards. Vernon also enjoyed hunting, fishing and fixing cars.

He is survived by his wife, Melissa (separated), his daughter, Shanell, fiancé, Doreen, stepson, Bruce "Marquis" and stepdaughter, Tierra "Tia", sisters, Shirley (Jack), Barbara (Chubby), Elizabeth "Betty" Green, Mary Brent Neal (Winfield) and Salome Savoy (Junior); brothers, Jerome (Rosemary), Larry (Connie), Herbert "Winfield" (Tess) and David "Timmy" (Frances), a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Viewing, 10:00am until Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00am on Friday, April 15, 2011 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 4590 St. Joseph's Way, Pomfret, Maryland. Interment, Church Cemetery.
