Charles James Coghlan, age 45, died on April 2, 2011.

He was a Charles County Volunteer Firefighter and EMT Instructor, a Prince George's County Professional Firefighter, and a United States Coast Guard Veteran of the Persian Gulf War (memorialized in the 2004 edition of The Foundation for Coast Guard History, pictured with his gun boat crew in the Persian Gulf War), and a McDonough High School graduate with an Associate Degree from the College of Southern Maryland (CSM). He recently served as the civilian head of the U.S.C.G. Nationwide Watch Qualifications Training Program, and was a HAZTRAIN, Inc. OSHA Certified Instructor on assignments throughout the world, including Russia and Ghana.

Charles most treasured his son Tyler and his daughter, Carleigh.

Born March 23, 1966, in Santa Monica, CA, he was the son of John Paul Coghlan and the Doreen Millar Coghlan.

Survived by his parents; his wife Robyn Coghlan; his son Tyler; his daughter, Carleigh; his sister, Rene Baker and brother-in-law Ronald; aunts, Peggy Nicol and husband Robert, Lexie Frank and husband James; nephews, Austin and Connor Baker, Cameron and Ryan Baroody; and cousins, Sue Shattuck, Carol Nicol, Bob Nicol, Karen Fiorelli and husband Joe, and Elaine McKay and husband Shawn; Susan and Dan Iles, Maureen and Scott Thayer, Elaine and Mitchel Sakran, Ann Coghlan, Billy Coghlan, and Patrick Coghlan; father and mother-in-law, Herbert and Kathy Thompson; brother-in- law Brian and wife Lisa, sister-in-law Tammy and husband Jim. Also survived by his relatives in Scotland and Australia.

Visitation will be on Sunday, April 10, 2011, from 5-8 PM with a Funeral Service at 7PM at New Life Wesleyan Church, 9690 Shepherd's Creek Place, La Plata, MD 20646.

Rev. Aaron Rummage will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Firefighters and United States Coast Guard. Honorary Pallbearers will be the United States Coast Guard Honor Guard.

Interment will be on Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at 11AM at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD.
