Mr. Crawford was the Owner/Operator of Maryland Airport in Pomonkey, MD for 60 years and was a Veteran of the United States Navy, having served during World War II. He attended Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics, graduating in June 1941.

He was employed at the Glenn L. Martin Company in Baltimore, MD from 1941 to 1944 in the Quality Control Section and advanced to Inspection Supervisor of Fuselage Subassemblies of the Martin B-26. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944 with duties as Mechanic on the Martin B-26 and was released from active duty in 1946. He completed the CAA Test and obtained an A&E license in mid-1946.

He was employed by the Glenn L. Martin Company from 1946 to 1947 with duties of Inspector on conversion/overhaul of C-54's to DC-4's and Equipment and Specifications Inspector on AM-1's.

He was employed as an Aircraft Mechanic at the French School of Aviation in Harbor Field in Dundalk, MD from 1947 to 1949. He was on active duty with the United States Naval Reserve at Anacostia Naval Air Station in Washington, DC from 1949 to 1953 with duties of Aircraft Mechanic on patrol and transport aircraft.

In June 1951, he worked a a part-time Mechanic at Maryland Airport in Indian Head, MD and became a full-time employee and Corporation President from 1953 to the present time. In 1953, he became a Designated Aircraft Maintenance Inspector (DAMI) and at its termination was offered and accepted Aircraft Inspection Authorization, which has been held continuously to the present time. He was a member of Quiet Birdmen (QB) and Silver Wings.

He was Owner of the Charley Taylor Master Mechanic Award issued December 1994 with 50+ years as an Aircraft Mechanic with no violations and Owner of the FAA Wright Brothers Master Aviator Award issued June 1997 with 50+ years as a Pilot with no violations.

Son of the late James William Crawford and the late Mamie Frances White Crawford.

Predeceased by his parents; his wife of 47 years, Beulah Lee Crawford

Survived by one son, Gilbert L. (Marilyn) Bauserman of Indian Head, MD; one sister, Elizabeth Swank of Indian Head, MD; four grandchildren, David Bauserman, Shelly Hill, Tammy Potter, and Teresa Dollar; and five great-grandchildren, Jeremy Hill, Jennifer Hughes, Brittany, Breezy, and Cameron Potter. Also survived by seven great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Monday, February 28, 2011 from 11AM until Service time at 12:30 PM at Calvary United Methodist Church, 3235 Leonardtown Road, Waldorf, MD 20601.

Rev. Robert Carter and Rev. Kevin Holder will officiate.

Interment took place at Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf, MD.

Honorary Pallbearers: United States Navy Honor Guard.
