Grace Rice Franklin, 85, of La Plata, MD passed away peacefully at her residence on February 6, 2011. Grace was born on April 13, 1925, in Newport, MD to the late Jarret Webster Rice and Olive Mae Rice.

Grace is preceded in death also by her husband; S. Davis Franklin. Brothers; Leonard Rice, and Harry G. Rice. Sister; Jean R. Swann.

Grace is survived by her Son; David H. Franklin. Daughter; Barbara Herbert. Sister; Marguerite Edwards. 4 Grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.

Grace retired from Southern Maryland Oil (SMO) after 35 years of faithful service. She enjoyed working in the service industry as a caterer. She loved to spend time with her family, sewing, and was a member of the 2N1 club.

A life celebration will be held on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 from 2-4 pm & 6-8 pm at the La Plata United Methodist Church with a prayer service at 7 pm. A funeral service will be held at the La Plata United Methodist Church on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at 10:30 am with the Pastor Bruce Jones officiating. Interment will follow at the Dentsville Methodist Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Billy Rice, Charles Rice, Mike Rice, Bill Riley, Willie Rawkings, and Kurt Durner. Honorary Pallbearers will be Nellie Barbour, William Barbour, and Ed McKenzie.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the La Plata Volunteer Fire Department.
