June Maxine Smith Stark, 91, of La Plata, MD, died May 4, 2010, at Abbey Manor Assisted Living Center, La Plata.

After graduating valedictorian from Beresford High School, Mrs. Stark attended business school in Grand Island, NE, where she met Robert Stark. She came to Washington, DC to work for Congressman Hatfield of South Dakota. June and Robert married on January 30, 1942. June worked for the U.S. Congress for 20 years. The last 12 years she worked for Congressman E. Y. Berry of South Dakota. Upon retirement, June and Robert moved to Kissimmee, FL until Robert's death in 2007.

Born June 30, 1918, in Beresford, SD, she was the daughter of the late Fred Smith and the late Mary Smith of Beresford, SD.

Predeceased by her parents; husband of 65 years, Robert D. Stark, Sr.

Survived by her son, Robert D. Stark, Jr. and his wife, Anne Grigsby Stark of Waldorf, MD. Also survived by her granddaughter, Taylor Anne Stark of Waldorf, MD.

Funeral Service will take place at Maryland Veterans Cemetery Chapel, Cheltenham, MD on Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at 11AM.

Rev. Mark Roberson will officiate.

Interment will be at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD.
