Rebekah P. Boyd, 83, of La Plata, passed away on Friday, November 19, 2021.

She was born and raised in Friendship, Maryland. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in French from Mary Washington College (now the University of Mary Washington) in 1960 and a Master of Library Science degree from the University of Maryland in 1966.

Mrs. Boyd and her husband Kenneth were married on August 6, 1960 in Alexandria, Virginia. From 1960 to 1961, she was employed by the National Geographic Society in Washington, D.C. as a correspondent. From 1961 to 1965, she was employed by the La Plata Library as a library assistant. After completing graduate school in 1966, she was then employed by the Southern Maryland Regional Library Association as Acting Administrator until the birth of her daughter in 1967.

She was a charter member of the La Plata Lioness Club since its inception in 1975, and served as its president in 1982. She also chaired many project committees for the Club, received multiple service awards through the years, and was a Melvin Jones Fellow in the International Association of Lions Clubs. An avid amateur genealogist, her research spanned several decades and resulted in nearly eight generations' worth of data.

She was preceded in death by her father, Laurence Putnam (originally of Eldora, Iowa), her mother, Evelyn (Sansbury) Putnam (originally of Friendship, Maryland), and her husband, Kenneth Boyd (originally of Northampton, Massachusetts). She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer.

Graveside service and interment will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at the La Plata United Methodist Cemetery in Dentsville, Maryland. Memorial contributions in Mrs. Boyd's name may be made to Hospice of Charles County, 2505 Davis Road, Waldorf, Maryland 20603.
