Rachel Andrea Thomas (Age 16) of Waldorf, Maryland. On Sunday, November 11, 2018, Rachel departed life peacefully at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata Maryland, at the age of 16.

Rachel was born in Washington D.C., December 17, 2001, to Gail Mason and Andre Thomas. Rachel was in her junior year at North Point High School in Waldorf and was set to graduate with the Class of 2020, with aspirations of attending Howard University to pursue a Criminal Justice Degree, which would qualify her to be a jag officer in the United States Air Force.

Rachel was a well-rounded student-athlete, who was consistently on the Honor Roll and a member of the Junior Varsity Girls' Basketball and Captain of the Junior Varsity Football Cheerleading teams. With a gregarious personality, Rachel had a zest for life that touched the lives of many with her infectious smile. Rachel enjoyed eating, cooking, baking her favorite dessert dishes which included her favorite brownies. She loved dancing, joking and spending time with her family and friends.

Rachel was a Master Sergeant of the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) and performed as a Commander for the Veterans Day ceremony at the Department of Education in Washington D.C.

During her time at North Point, Rachel received numerous academic awards and accolades that included the AFJROTC Tuskegee Airmen Certificate of Achievement for her superior performance in the cadet corps exemplified through outstanding leadership and service to the community. With her continued community efforts, Rachel donated shoes and clothes for many that were impacted by Hurricane Michael in North Carolina.

Rachel was a devoted member of Smith Chapel United Methodist Church as a Youth Worship leader, Usher, Youth Choir Member, assisted with the church's hospitality services and attended annual Rock Youth Retreats. She was employed part-time for Charles County Parks and Recreation at William Wade Elementary School and did volunteer work for the Lobster Fest at the Charles County Fair. She also once appeared as "McGruff the Crime Dog" at National Night Out for Community Neighborhoods in Southern Maryland.

Rachel leaves to mourn, a loving mother, Gail Mason, father, Andre Thomas, brother, James Mason (AJ), maternal grandparents, David and Dorothy Mason, paternal grandparents, Carolyn Thomas and Ralph Thomas (Ruth), aunts,

Lynette Washington, Zita Walker (Jay), great aunts, Emma Ransome, Judy Bennett (James), Julia Campbell and Grace Gutrick (Rudolf), uncles, Wendell Thomas, Titus Thomas, Joe Mason, Daniel Mason (Theresa), John Mason (Winifred), Edward Mason (Tresia), and a host of other relatives and friends.

Her Viewing will be 8:30 am, until time of Service, 12:00 noon, Saturday, November 24, 2018, in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A. Interment, Smith Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, 7130 Poorhouse Road, La Plata, Maryland 20646. Arrangements by Thornton Funeral Home.
