John "Kent" Rawlings, age 85, of Bryantown, MD passed away November 3, 2018 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his wife Doris Weatherald Rawlings and his beloved family. Kent is survived by his wife of 64 years, Doris Weatherald Rawlings, his sons Kenny Rawlings, Dale Rawlings, Phil Rawlings, daughters Elaine Vanlandingham and Karen Burch, 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and brother Robert Rawlings.

Kent was a salesman with Sears and Roebuck for over 40 years. He enjoyed the outdoors, jogging, camping, mowing the lawn or just relaxing in the sun. He loved yard sales, flea markets, talk radio (Dr. Gabe Mirkin and more recently Rush Limbaugh) and was an avid junk collector. His family enjoyed his self-given nickname of "Father RabbIt of Bryantown" and we could always expect to hear one or more of his numerous (and sometimes puzzling) Father Rabbit-isms, including "If your down by the lake, drop in" or "Do you walk to work or carry your lunch?" Kent was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to all. He was a simple man who was kind, gentle, and genuine with everyone he met.

Kent was the son of John Truman Rawlings and Erna Alice Schwein Rawlings. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters Annabelle Ennis, Betty Lou Sherrad, Arlene Nave, Doris Reed and grandsons Michael Rawlings and Dustin Kyle Vanlandingham.

Friends will be received on Monday, November 12, 2018 at 10am at the Cheltenham United Methodist Church, 11111 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, Maryland 20623. A service and interment will follow in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Cheltenham United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 146, Cheltenham, MD 20623. Arrangements by Huntt Funeral Home.
