Fred Thomas Gheen, 88, of Mechanicsville, MD passed away at MedStar St. Mary's Hospital in Leonardtown, MD on December 2, 2016. Fred was born on July 4, 1928 in Granite Quarry, NC to the late William Thomas Gheen and the late Lizzie Lentz Gheen. In addition to his parents, Fred was predeceased by his brothers, Edgar Gheen, Wilbert Gheen; sisters, Lillian Copland, Margaret Blackwelder, Leatha Hamilton; and Betty Benjamin.

Fred is survived by his loving wife, Selma Jean Gheen; son, Michael T. Gheen (Barbara); daughter, Penny Dee Haag (Steve); grandchildren, Kenneth Gheen, Tracy Vergowe, and Jason Haag; great grandchildren, Donovan Gheen, Tristan Haag, Peyton Haag, Colby Haag and Jackson Vergowe.

Family will receive friends for Fred's Life Celebration on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 from 3-7pm at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. A Funeral Service will be on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at 11am at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 37707 New Market Turner Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622 with Pastor Tim McNutt officiating.

Pallbearers will be: Steve Haag, Mike Gheen, Kenny Gheen, Eric Hartwig, Jason Haag and Paul Kunz. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: American Heart Association P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058-5216. Arrangements by Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home
