Benjamin Lee Thompson, 89, of Mechanicsville, MD passed away on November 4, 2016 at his residence in Mechanicsville, MD. Benjamin was the son of the late Elwood Leroy Thompson and the late Mildred Genevieve Unsworth Thompson. He was born on February 12, 1927 in Capitol Heights, MD.

Benjamin was an Overhead Lineman for PEPCO and a tobacco farmer. His hobbies included working outdoors and spending time with his family, especially his seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He served in the U.S. Merchant Marines and the U.S. Army.

In addition to his parents, Benjamin was predeceased by his daughter, Kathy Thompson; and brothers, Elwood, Budd, and Jerry Thompson. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Shirley M. Thompson; children, Mark L. Thompson (Jenny), Brian D. Thompson, Charles O. Thompson (Brenda), Timothy N. Thompson (Lisa), all of Mechanicsville, MD, Julie A. Barrett (Michael) of Huntingtown, MD; brothers, Warren Thompson (Margaret) of Upper Marlboro, MD, Washie Thompson (Lois) of Omaha, NE, Corben Thompson (Barbara) of Huntingtown, MD, and Glenn Thompson of Delaware.

Family will receive friends for Benjamin's visitation at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, Charlotte Hall, MD, on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 from 9-11am with a Funeral Service at 11:00am. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Queen of Peace Cemetery, 38888 Dr. Johnson Road, Mechanicsville, MD 20659.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Benjamin's name to Hospice of St. Mary's, hospiceofstmarys.org. Pallbearers will be: Mark Thompson, Brian Thompson, Charles Thompson, Timothy Thompson, Andrew Thompson and Ryan Thompson. Arrangements by Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home.
