Marlene B. Thomas, 80, of Mechanicsville, MD died October 20, 2016 at Medstar Washington Hospital Center surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 14, 1936 at home in Point Pleasant, WV to the late Gory R. Bumgardner and late Mildred Betz Bumgardner.

Marlene is a graduate of Point Pleasant High School and received a Bachelors in Music Education from Ohio University. Post-graduate work was completed at the College of William and Mary, Radford University, and Hafstra University. She married her beloved husband James P. Thomas on July 4, 1962 and celebrated 49 years of marriage before his passing in 2011.

She was a church choir member for 52 years, a church organist for 53 years, a member of St. Maries Musica for 14 years, and worked within the public school system as a music educator and arts coordinator for St. Mary's County Public Schools having finally retired there after 29 years. In retirement Marlene enjoyed playing cards with various bridge clubs, going to live stage shows, attending luncheons, and spending time with her family.

She is predeceased by her late husband James P. Thomas and is survived by her two children, Mark A. Thomas (Sharon Pilkerton) and Lori A. Lang (Joseph Johnston); six grandchildren, Heather Schumacher (Jack), Bill Hewitt (Richard), Jacob Lang, Lucas Lang, Jessica Lang, Lydia Lang; and two great-grandchildren, Hunter and Colton Schumacher.

Visitation will be held at 2:00-4:00 on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Brinsfield Funeral Home, P. A., 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650 with a memorial service to begin at 4:00. Interment will be held at a later date in West Virginia. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad and the Hospice of St. Mary's. Arrangements by the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A., Leonardtown, MD.
