George Hamilton Schuhart, (Uncle George), 88, of Bel Alton, MD formerly from Chaptico, MD, passed away on October 18, 2016 in Clinton, MD. Born on June 13, 1928 he was the son of the late Nellie Long Schuhart and William E. Schuhart.

George was survived by his children: Jeffrey Long Schuhart of Bel Alton, MD, George Wayne Schuhart (Patricia) of Bel Alton, MD, Dennis Keith Schuhart of Atlanta, GA, Joseph Brent Schuhart of La Plata, MD, Gayle Marie Wells (Joseph) of Swan Point, MD, 2 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son David Hamilton Schuart and siblings; Edward Schuhart, Mary Bosma, Elizabeth Fowler, Virginia Goff, Elsie Trapp, James Schuhart, Oscar Schuhart, Daniel Schuhart, and Annie Wallace.

He graduated from Margaret Brent in 1946, and the University of MD in 1974 earning a Teaching Certificate. He was a lifelong Bel Alton, MD resident. George served in the United States Army from 1946 to 1948. He served in World War II earning the Victory Medal. He worked for the U.S. Government Naval Ordnance Station as a Quality Assurance Specialist for 30 years retiring in 1993. George was a charter member of the Bel Alton Vol. Fire Department in Bel Alton, MD.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, P. A. Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at 10:00 AM in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery with Father Anthony Lickteig officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be family members and friends. Contributions may be made to the Bel Alton Vol. Fire Department and Vol. Rescue Squad 9765 Bel Alton Newtown Road Bel Alton, MD 20611. Arrangements by Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home.
