Dr. Juliana del Rosario Monteiro, devoted wife, loving mother, skilled physician and a true matriarch, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2016 at her home in La Plata, Maryland. Born on January 8, 1925 in Taytay, Philippines, she was the oldest of 9 children born to Teofista and Delfin del Rosario. Married to Dr. Arturo Monteiro in 1949 after meeting in medical school, they decided to immigrate to the United States shortly thereafter to raise a family and practice medicine.
Julie, or "Dr. Rosie" to many, spent the majority of her time practicing anesthesiology at Physicians Memorial Hospital in La Plata, or in her loving garden surrounded by her beautiful flowers and plants. Juliana is survived by her husband Arturo of 67 years, their children Arturo Jr. of Florence, MA, Rowina Amick of Atlanta, GA, and Armando of Stratford, CT, 4 brothers, 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday, October 25th, 2016 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 201 St. Mary's Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646. The family will receive friends from 9:00-10:00 a.m. followed by Mass from 10:00-11:00 a.m. The interment will immediately follow the service.
