Russell Frederick Hintze, of Waldorf, MD passed away on September 25, 2016 of heart and renal failure. He was 86.

Mr. Hintze attended schools in Charles County and was a carpenter before being drafted to serve in the Korean War, rising to the rank of Sargent 1st class. He was awarded both the Purple Heart and Silver Star medals before being honorably discharged in 1953 at the age of 23. After leaving the Army, he began his 42-year career as a driver-salesman for Wonder Bread, a job for which he had great pride and satisfaction. He retired in 1998.

For over 20 years, Mr. Hintze was the coach of the Waldorf Lions Little League team, a "job" he clearly enjoyed. Years later, when he saw one of his "boys" around town, he called them by name. He never forgot them and they remembered him.

He married, raised a family and tended to his large vegetable garden with the help of his wife and kids. He played softball in his younger days and enjoyed playing golf, especially with his sons and grandchildren. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

In addition to his parents, Herbert F. and Pearl (Simms), he was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Mary Knobel Hintze; sister, Mildred (Sissy) Shockey; and brother, Arthur. He leaves behind his daughter, Donna Cook of Hughesville, MD, Wayne (Colleen) of Boonesboro, MD and their children, Wendy, Luke (Tracey) and Logan, and Douglas (Katrina) of Los Alamos, NM and their children, John Russell, Evan, William and Marshall. He is also survived by his brother, Harold (Doris) and sisters, Christine Burch, Shirley Bailey (Bernard), and Rita Hogge.

Visitation will be Friday, September 30, 2016 from 2-4PM and 6-8PM with Prayers at 7PM at Raymond Funeral Service Chapel, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646 with a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 10AM at St. Mary's Bryantown Catholic Church, 13715 Notre Dame Place, Bryantown, MD 20617. Burial to follow at St. Mary's Bryantown Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, any donation may be given to Russell's favorite (and only) charity, Sarah's Place, PO Box 197, Sandy Hook, KY 41171. Arrangements by Raymond Funeral Service.
