Robert "Gene" Eugene Gibson, 58, of La Plata, MD passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on August 11, 2016. Gene was born on May 29, 1958 in La Plata, MD to Roy and Yevon Pruitt Gibson, Sr.

Gene worked for the Smithsonian Institution for 35 years with the last 16 years at the Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC. He was a loving husband and father. He loved watching Nascar Racing and cheering on his favorite driver #24 Jeff Gordon. He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family and friends.

He is predeceased by his father Roy Gibson, Sr. and brother in-law John T. Whitley. In addition to his mother Yevon he is survived by his wife of 39 years Mary, daughter Catherine, two sons; Christopher and Matthew, brother Roy and his wife Debbie, sister Judy Frye and her husband Tim, sister in-law Kristy Whitley, six nieces; Bethany, Leah, Kimberly, Dawn, Rebecca and Jennifer and three nephews Paul, David and Brandon.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 from 2–4PM and from 6-8PM with a prayer service at 7:00PM at Fellowship Church, 9805 Faith Baptist Church Road, White Plains, MD 20695 where an additional visitation will be on Thursday, August 18th from 12:00PM until time of service at 1:00PM. Interment will be at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 3221 Mattawoman-Beantown Road, Waldorf, MD 20601.

Pallbearers will be; Tim Frye, Doug Carruth, Brent Garner, Ricky Zagrodnichek, Wes Houchens and Zabih Sadighian. Honorary Pallbearers are; Robert Pickle, Dave Gentilcore and Paul Frye. Memorial contributions are requested to Charles County Humane Society, P.O. Box 1015, Waldorf, MD 20604 and/or Fellowship Church 9805 Faith Baptist Church Road, White Plains, MD 20695.
