James Cornelius "Jimmy" Thompson, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center, La Plata, Maryland. Jimmy was born September 20, 1943 to the late James Cornelius and Alice Jackson Thompson. His parents died early in his life. His aunts, Alice McCaskill and Pearl Furey, stepped in and assumed the parental role in the lives of Jimmy and his siblings. His favorite pastimes were fishing, hunting, and watching football. He also enjoyed hosting summer cookouts for the community and his family to enjoy.

Jimmy grew up in Bryans Road, Maryland. He joined Metropolitan United Methodist Church at an early age. After graduation from Pomonkey High School, he began working in the Highway Construction Industry and continued to work in that field throughout his life. Whenever working on various road projects, somehow he always recognized family as they passed by and would extend a hand and wave.

James married Lee Esther Medley. They were blessed with two sons, Kent and James, Jr. His family preceded him in death. His brother, Cedric Thompson, sisters, Cynthia Thompson and Conchita Bland also preceded him in death. He is survived by one brother, Vincent Thompson and his wife Vertie Thompson, daughter-in- law, LaVera Thompson, aunts, Connie and Elvay Thompson, nephews, nieces and a host of other relatives and many friends.

Viewing, 10:00am until time of Service, 11:00am, Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Metropolitan United Methodist Church, 3385 Metropolitan Church Road, Indian Head, Maryland. Arrangements by Thornton Funeral Home.
