MSGT Thomas Joseph Collins, USAF, (Ret.), 89, of Leonardtown, MD passed away on July 2, 2016 at MedStar St. Mary's Hospital in Leonardtown, MD surrounded by his loving family. Tom was born January 6, 1927 in Akron, OH to the late Neal Arthur Collins and Mildred Smoot.

Tom proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force and dedicated over 20 years of service to his country until his retirement in July 1966 as a Master Sergeant.

On February 5, 1949 he married his beloved wife, Imal Virginia Jones, in Spokane, WA. Together they celebrated 67 wonderful years of marriage.

He retired from the Department of Defense as a purchasing/contracting agent. He was an avid reader, enjoyed taking on various household projects, crossword puzzles, old movies and dancing. His greatest love was for his family and his church, whom he enjoyed spending his time with.

He was a devoted member of the Catholic Church and was a member of the church choir. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He devoted many hours volunteering with the American Red Cross, the library, various hospitals, thrift shops and food banks.

In addition to his beloved wife, Tom is also survived by his children, Patricia Younger (Larry L.) of Lexington Park, MD, Michael Collins (Casey) of Pueblo, CO, Stephen Collins of Denver, CO, Mark Collins (Lisa) of Centennial, CO; his granddaughter, Jennifer McKinnett; his great grandchildren, Taryn Saleny, Morraigne Dowler; and his great-great granddaughter, Luna Saleny; and many extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his brothers, Neal Collins, James Collins, and Patrick Collins.

Family will receive friends on Friday, July 8, 2016 from 10:15-11:00 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Reverend Raymond Schmidt at 11:00 a.m., at St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church, 32927 St. John's Road, Hollywood, MD 20636. Inurnment will be Monday, July 11, 2016 at 10:15 a.m. at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, MD 20623. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058-5216. Arrangements by the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A., Leonardtown, MD.
