James "Herbert" Chase, 84, departed this life peacefully at his residence in White Plains, MD on October 20, 2015.

James, better known as "Herbert" was born on July 6, 1931 to the late James Alexander and Catherine Olivia Chase. He was educated in the Charles County Public School System. He was a faithful member of St. Ignatius Church.

James retired from the Town of La Plata Waste Water Management in 2001. On Friday nights, he looked forward to getting picked up by his buddy, Donald Lee to go play cards. James also enjoyed family gatherings at his daughter, Catherine's house, especially being the Caller for Po-Keno.

In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by his brothers, Frances "Mac", John, William "Bill", Stephen "Jack"; sister, Bernadette; son, James, Jr.; great-grandson, Devante; daughter, Theresa; and granddaughter-in-law, Elizabeth.

James leaves to cherish his wife of 62 years, Largo; brothers, Eugene and Joseph (Eleanor); sisters, Elizabeth, Mary and Virgie; sisters-in-law, Gloria, Florence and Lucinda; son, Patrick (Barbara), daughters, Catherine (Larry) and Lisa (Kenny); former son-in-law, Wayne Dorsey; grandchildren, Tyrone Butler, Felicia Montgomery (Troy), Jamal Thompson (Keisha), Tamara Tolson, Lamar Dorsey, Shiria Thomas, Juanita Dorsey and Wayne Dorsey, Jr; great-grandchildren, Davon, Deontra, Jamaal, Jr., Tyrone, Jr., Javon, ShaDai, Quionni, William, Malachi, Titus, Dontae, Chiamara and Tyler; in addition to a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 26, 2015 at St. Ignatius Church, 8855 Chapel Point Rd., Port Tobacco, MD; Interment immediately following in the Church Cemetery. Pallbearers: Tyrone Butler, Jamal Thompson, Wayne Dorsey, Sr., Tony Chase, Tony Washington and Kevin Washington. The family would like to give a special thanks to daughter, Lisa, sister, Virgie and Charles County Hospice. Arrangements provided by Arehart-Echols Funeral Home.
