Walter Hagan Smith, 91, of Catonsville passed away September 8, 2015 at his residence. He was born March 5, 1924 to John Walter and Anna Elizabeth (Hagan) Smith.

Walter was raised in Allen and Ocean City, MD, where he attended public schools. He joined the Unites States Army in 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1946. Walter graduated from the University of Maryland with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. He married Norma Jean Timmons on November 26, 1953. He was employed with SMECO as the executive vice president, retiring in 1987. In his leisure time, Walter enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean Smith, and a sister Frances Anne Coulbourne. Walter is survived by children Jacqueline Hagan Smith and husband Jerry Hook of Royal Oak, MD, John Hagan Smith of Parkton, MD, and Kathy Jean Smith Drohat and husband Greg of Edgewater, MD. Also surviving are grandchildren Michael and Brooke Hagan Smith of Parkton, and Grant, Amanda and Jack Drohat of Edgewater.
