An "Amazing" Woman, Daughter, Sister, Aunt, Niece and Friend

Marsha L. Thompson, was born on November 10, 1969, in La Plata, Maryland to George Marshall and Linda Susan Thompson. She passed peacefully on September 9, 2015. Marsha's devotion to her family and strength in God supported her during this courageous battle and ultimately gave her peace.

She was the oldest of two children and the oldest grandchild to the late Thelma and George L. Matthews, whom she loved and cherished dearly. She, along with her sister, Tijuan, enjoyed many holidays and summer vacations with their grandparents in La Plata, Maryland. Marsha took charge being the oldest sibling and grandchild, which meant control over all the grandchildren. She was like the "parent" in the house at times.

She enjoyed reading, skating, and enjoyed playing bingo with her friends. In her early childhood to adult years, skating became her "hobby" and she loved to skate, as she would always sing, "Flying on a Wind Screen." She loved singing Teena Marie and Phyllis Hyman songs. She enjoyed dancing and singing and attending dance recitals with her sister.

Marsha was educated at St. Thomas Moore and All Saints Catholic High School in Washington, D.C. She later transferred and graduated from High Point High School in Beltsville, Maryland in 1987. At that time, she began her college studies at Montgomery College and later the University of Phoenix, where she recently obtained a Master's Degree in Health Administration. She was very ambitious about her studies and becoming the best she could be in the health field. She was always writing papers and researching and later began researching her illness as part of her study.

She enjoyed her first job as a Pharmacy Technician, until later taking a position with the National Institute of Health (NIH), then working at various law firms, finally settling in at Jones Day in the District of Columbia. She was a courageous young woman and a dedicated employee, who never liked to miss a day of work. Marsha was feisty, headstrong and sometimes brutally honest.

Marsha leaves to cherish her memory loving parents, Linda and George; sister, Tijuan (Leroy); niece, Loren Sanders; aunts and uncles and a host of other cousins, relatives and special lifetime friends; Kisha Martin-Burney, Michelle Young and Everette Thomas. She is preceded in death by her late grandparents, George L. and Thelma D. Matthews and Sidney Fairfax and Thelma Thompson.

The family has lost a "Precious Flower" from our garden, but she will forever remain in our hearts. She will truly be missed by all who loved and knew her.

Her viewing will be held from 9am until Mass of Christian Burial, 10:30am on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 201 St. Mary's Avenue, La Plata, Maryland 20646. Interment Church Cemetery. Arrangements provided by Thornton Funeral Home.
