Thomas Julius "Tommy" Hall, of Avenue, passed away surrounded by his family at MedStar Washington Hospital Center on August 22, 2015. He was 71 years old.

Tommy was born on September 19, 1943 in Clinton to the late William Jennings Hall and Mary Anna Hall (Tippett). He graduated from Arch Bishop Neale High School in 1960 and served a 2 year term in the US army in Okinawa Japan.

Tommy is survived by his wife of 44 years, Susan Hall (Thompson) and their two daughters, Jennifer Sparks along with her husband Merv and their three sons Corey, Evan and Dylan of Middletown, Delaware; and Jessica Hall and her son Zachary of Avenue. Tommy is also survived by his siblings; Delores Wathen, Richard Hall and wife Ethel of, and Michael Hall and his wife Gale of, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings William J. Hall, Jr., Benjamin Hall, Clara Mae Moore, Mary Ann Murphy, Regina Moore, Edith Lou Hall, James "Sonny" Hall, Pat Hall, Johnny Hall, and Bobby Hall.

Tommy worked for the Morgantown Generating Station (formerly PEPCO) in Newburg, MD for 35 years and retired in 2002. However, he returned to work part-time and for special projects the years after retirement and was well-respected for his strong work ethic and dedication. Many of his closest friends were made during his employment.

Tommy loved to spend time with both daughters and their families. His four grandsons were Tommy's pride and joy, as he often proclaimed with his "#1 Granddad" cap. He could either walk next door to take his beloved youngest grandson Zachary for a golf cart ride, which was a favorite pastime for both of them. Often, he and Susie would spend a special occasion traveling to Delaware to visit his other grandsons. Tommy loved to teach Corey the basics of driving, talk to Evan about basketball and roughhouse play with Dylan.

Everything Tommy worked hard for was to make his family and their children happy. One of his favorite hobbies was yard sale shopping, and he loved to find small treasures and trinkets for his grandchildren or special tools and household items for his daughters' homes. Tommy also enjoyed outdoor activities, especially chopping wood. He had quite the stockpile at his own home as well as openly sharing with neighbors and friends. He was also a lifelong fan of NASCAR racing and an avid fan of the Wood Brothers Team for as long as he could remember. When his girls were younger, Tommy would always plan fun camping trips with them and their friends. His infectious love of roller coasters was shared with many. He was a kind hearted, generous man and will be missed dearly.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 PM the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD . A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, August 27, 2015 at 10:00AM in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Bushwood, MD. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens Leonardtown, MD. Pallbearers will be: Merv Sparks, Bobby McGill, James Carter, Dale Pilkerton, Mike Hall and Richard Hall. Honorary Pallbearers will be his 4 grandsons.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Tommy's honor may be made payable to the Big Ball Marathon at PO Box 329, Middletown, DE 19709, or the Delaware Autism Program at 144 Brennen Drive, Newark, DE 19713.
