John Albert Meyer, 81, of La Plata, MD died June 23, 2015 at his residence. John was born September 3, 1933 on Clinton, IA to the late Walter and Lucille Madsen Meyer.

John served as a Sergeant in The United States Marine Corp from March 1952 until March 1955 with a tour of duty in Korea. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1958 with a degree in Criminal Justice and began a career in law enforcement as a police officer for the Oakland Police Department in California. In 1961, he began a career in Naval Intelligence working in Yokosuka, Japan and Vietnam. He went on to become a Special Agent for the Drug Enforcement Administration in Baltimore, MD and Washington, D.C., retiring in 1986.

He enjoyed golfing, traveling to Europe and mornings at the Turkey Hill Dog Park with his dog Ginger and friends.

John is survived his wife of 33 years Karola Meyer, one son Fred Burleson, four daughters; Tracy Hanlon, Kelly Campolong, Holly Wirth and Tanja Rivoire and eight grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to Hospice of Charles County, 2505 Davis Road, Waldorf, MD 20603 and/or American Cancer Society, 801 Roeder Road, Suite 800, Silver Spring, MD 20910. Visitation will be on Monday, June 29, 2015 from 11:00 am until time of Memorial Service at 12:00 pm at Raymond Funeral Service, P.A., 5635 Washington Ave, La Plata, MD 20646.
