Genevieve Agnes Doherty, 94, of Pomfret, MD passed away peacefully on May 9, 2015 at her home. Genevieve was born August 3, 1920 in St. Cloud, MN. She lived in Pomfret, MD. She was a lifelong Lutheran and a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Waldorf.

She was married to Robert Allen Doherty (deceased). She leaves a daughter, Eileen, three grandchildren, Justin Morgan, Samantha Knott, and Michael Morgan, and two great-grandchildren, Devin and Ryan Knott. Her husband, Robert, preceded her. She was predeceased by a sister, Lois Wise. Her brothers Arnold Aubol and Chester Aubol survive, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Genevieve's professional career began as an advertising illustrator in Minneapolis, MN. During WWII she served in the U.S. Women's Army Corps, working as an artist. Later, she was employed in the USGS cartography division. She both illustrated and designed many educational publications for the University of Maryland Extension Service. At Dow Jones, she designed and illustrated the Newsbook series. She was also employed as a publication designer and illustrator at INA in Philadelphia, and at the Army Times in Washington, DC. She earned a B.A. from Thomas Edison State College. Upon retirement, she continued to use her artistic gifts for her church, as well as designing and illustrating a monthly newsletter for a retirement community.

Genevieve greatly enjoyed travel and meeting people from other cultures. She participated in Syracuse University's Semester at Sea program, through which students of all ages sail around the world, learn about world history and cultures, tour cities, and meet people. She traveled independently as well, visiting Canada, Mexico, France, England, Scotland, and other countries. Under the auspices of the U.S. International Executive Service Corps, she worked in Kenya.

Genevieve loved visiting with her brothers, Arnold and Chet, her sister, Lois, and nephews Jim and David, and being with her Maryland family. She also loved gardening. She found fulfillment in rising to meet the challenges of her career. She found peace in the promises of Jesus Christ.
