William (Bill) Anthony Malatesta, Sr., 91, Mechanicsville, MD died on April 6, 2015 in his home. He was born on August 5, 1923. He was the son of the late Angelo and Margaret Schafer Malatesta.

He served two years in the United States Navy during World War II as a Machinist Mate 2/e on the USS Pierce. He also worked as an engineering technician for 33 years before retiring from HHS Food and Drug Administration in Washington, DC. He was known as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son Raymond William Malatesta; his siblings Anthony Malatesta, Gloria Kitchin, John Malatesta and Gertrude Perry.

William is survived by his wife of 66 years, Serafina (Sherry) Malatesta; his daughters Patricia Malatesta, and Linda Malatesta Musial; and his son William Anthony Malatesta, Jr. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and his sister, Dorothy McDonald.

Services will be held at Raymond Funeral Service, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646 on Thursday, April 16, 2015. Visitation will be 10AM until time of a Catholic Memorial Service at 12PM. Interment to follow at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, MD 20623.
