George William Riggs, of Waldorf, Maryland died on Monday, April 6, 2015 in Hague, Virginia. He was 78 years old. Born on July 3, 1936 in Washington, D.C. he was the son of the late Estelle Lula and the late Raymond J. Riggs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Shelby Riggs; and his siblings Edna, Penny, Roy, Raymond and Melvin.

Mr. Riggs served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War until he was Honorably Discharged in 1957 at the rank of Private First Class. He graduated from Southeast University in Washington DC and was a member of the Senior Executive Service. He was the Assistant Administrator of the National Gallery of Art until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of the Southwest Alumni Association (SWAA), a former member of the Elks Lodge in Camp Springs, MD and a member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed reading, fishing, crabbing, spending time on and around the water and being with his family.

Mr. Riggs is survived by his wife Karen A. Riggs; his children Chris Riggs and his wife Sue, Laurie McClure and her husband Ronnie, Kari Hamilton and her husband Scott, Amanda Bartley and her husband Randy; his grandchildren David and Samantha Riggs, Jamie, Allie, and Kari Dunlap, Jimmy and Danny McClure, Sydney and Sierra Hamilton, Ryan and Brandon Johnson; his great grandchildren Jayden Kitchens and Kaylan Riggs; and his sister Helen Waldstein.

Visitation on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 from 6PM to 8PM at the Raymond Funeral Service, P.A. 5635 Washington Avenue La Plata, MD 20646 where Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at 11:30AM. Interment to follow at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cople District Volunteer Fire Department, 123 Yeocomico Lane, Kinsale, VA 22488. Arrangements provided by Raymond Funeral Service.
