Patricia Alyce Kelly, age 71, died Wednesday evening, March 4, 2014 at her home in Prince Frederick, MD from colon cancer.

She was founder and Executive Director of Birthright of Prince Frederick for 15 years. She is a licensed clinical professional counselor and co-owner of Clifden Counseling Services. She held a doctoral degree from Brown University in English literature, was an associate professor of journalism at Northeastern University, authored several books, and was an award winning reporter for three Boston area daily newspapers before moving to Calvert County in 1992 from Massachusetts. She was an Associate of the Dominican Sisters of Peace in Mclean, Virginia.

Mrs. Kelly is survived by her husband, Richard E. Kelly of Prince Frederick, their son, Luis R. Kelly, daughter-in-law, Alesha M. Kelly, and granddaughter, Isabella M. Kelly of Lusby; her brothers, William, Robert and Raymond Babcock and sister, Ellen Briggs of Florida.

Calling hours are planned for Thursday, March 12, 2014 from 5-9 PM and a funeral mass at 11 AM on Friday, March 13, 2014, at St. John Vianney Church off Main St., Prince Frederick, MD. Placement of ashes will be at St. John Vianney cemetery columbarium at a later date.
