Henry Coleman Washington, more affectionately called "Coleman" of Grayton Maryland passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2015, at Hadley Specialty Hospital, Washington DC, surrounded by his family.

He was born November 6, 1925, in Riverside, Maryland. He was the son of late Coleman and Maria Washington and was the youngest child of six siblings. Coleman accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, and was Baptized by the late Reverend George Carter on August 22, 1938. While in the nursing home and hospitals he rededicated his life back to the Lord. His favorite scripture was Psalm 23.

He was united in holy matrimony to Malinda Washington who preceded him in death on January 2, 1993.

He attended Charles County Public Schools. He worked at various jobs providing for his family, before retiring from the National Park Service in 1989. After retirement he devoted much of his time and energy as a care giver to relatives until he became ill.

You would often find him, driving to B&J's Carry-out, Scotts and Grinder Store just to get a cup of coffee. He loved watching the Steve Harvey Show, Martin, Judge Judy, Judge Joe Brown, Wrestling and Western Movies. Oh how he loved his caps, he would not leave home without one and wherever he sat down his cap was always on his knee or somewhere very close or as one might say in an eye shot.

Coleman's life seemed to short to many, but to those who were touched and loved by him understood, that the quality of his existence, far exceeds the quantity of time which one lived.

He leaves to cherish his memories his children, Delores Doby (Reginald), Coleman Washington (Agnes), Edith Amos (Arthur), Barbara Carroll (Carlton), Earl Washington, Jerrold Washington (Blanche), Lydia Proctor (Paul), adopted daughters, Joyce and April; seventeen grandchildren, thirty nine great grandchildren, godson, Charles Cobey and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Viewing, 10:00 a.m. until time of Service 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 24, 2015 in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland 20640. Interment, Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, 11220 Holly Spring Road, Nanjemoy, Maryland 20662. Arrangements provided by Thornton Funeral Home.
