Vernon Alton Buchanan, 83, of White Plains, MD died Sunday, November 16, 2014 at the University of MD Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata, MD. He was born August 13, 1931 in Indian Head, MD to the late William Russell Buchanan and Gladys Lillian Weeks Buchanan.

Vernon retired as a fireman at the Naval Ordnance Station in Indian Head, MD and drove a school bus for Keller Transportation for many years. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and father-in-law. He enjoyed boating, fishing and crabbing, OBX vacations, and attending family get-togethers or cookouts.

He is survived by his wife and best friend of 21 years, Mary Susan Buchanan; two daughters, Brenda Ann Bowles and her husband Rick of Lake Frederick, VA and Charlotte Faye Martin and her husband Allan of St. Petersburg, FL; a son, Clark Allan Buchanan and his wife Summer of Leonardtown, MD; siblings, Randolph Buchanan, Marlene Wedding, and Elaine Gates; grandchildren, Christine Morkunas, Erin and Evan Buchanan; and great-grandchildren, Logan and Katie Morkunas. He will be sadly missed by his loving caregiver, Prajapathy Sarathchandra.

Funeral Service and Interment on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at 11:30AM at the Trinity Memorial Gardens, 3221 Mattawoman-Beantown Road, Waldorf, MD 20601. Memorial donations are asked to the Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements provided by Raymond funeral Service.
