More Details:

"Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins..." Galatians 1:3

Having begun morning worship services in 2005, Grace and Peace is a new church, committed to meeting the spiritual needs of our southern Maryland communities with the resources of the historic Christian faith. While new, Grace and Peace is a growing church, having gone from an original group of nine couples.

While we are a new congregation, our beliefs are anything but new-in fact, they are ancient! We believe that the historic Christian faith-the faith communicated in the Holy Scriptures-is both completely true and powerfully life changing. We are officially committed to those ancient statements of the Christian faith known as the "ecumenical confessions"-the Apostles', Nicene, and Athanasian Creeds. We also are officially committed to what is known as the Reformed theological tradition through our subscription to the Westminster Confession of Faith and Catechisms, documents produced in the 17th century at Westminster Abbey in London. We are affiliated with the Mid-Atlantic Presbytery of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church.

At Grace & Peace Presbyterian Church we wholeheartedly believe the classic Christian tenet that humanity was created to enjoy a vital relationship with God; in the words of St. Augustine's prayer, "You have made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you." The central Christian message, historically called the gospel (or "good news"), is that through Jesus Christ it is possible to have this personal connection of peace and rest in God. We believe that the perfect life and atoning death of Jesus in our place makes us right with God and leads to the healing of all other relationships. At Grace & Peace Church we believe that life can be lived to the fullest only when the gospel is warmly embraced and then practically lived out day-to-day.

Vision for Church Planting
Mid-Atlantic Presbytery, OPC

The Missions and Church Extension Committee seeks to assist the Presbytery in planting reformed and Presbyterian churches that are built upon the foundation of God's word and in which individuals, families and the church itself is being transformed by God's grace, leading to the transformation of its neighborhood and the world.

These churches should be characterized by:

1. The Centrality of worship in the Spirit. Worship will combine the law and gospel of our gracious covenant God as we invite people to glorify the Almighty who has drawn close to His people (Isaiah 57:15), by finding in Him their deepest joy and satisfaction (Psalm 100:1, 107:2, Westminster Confession of Faith 21.1-5, Westminster Shorter Catechism Q.1).

2. The Centrality of learning in the truth. Preaching and teaching will promote depth in biblical understanding and joyful obedience in covenant relationship with God. (Westminster Confession of Faith 1.1,16, 25.3, Westminster Shorter Catechism Q.89.) Families will be strengthened as men are taught how to equip their children to be future leaders in the church and in the world. (Deut. 6:1-4).

3. The Centrality of loving fellowship. Our shared life in Christ will express itself in face-to-face fellowship of mutual love and burden bearing (Galatians 6:10, Westminster Confession of Faith 26.1-2). People being set free by the gospel of grace will live transparently before God and one another (Romans 15:7, 1 John 1:3-7,Ephesians 4:1-16).

4. The Centrality of witness through words. As our members more and more believe and are changed by the gospel, the Spirit will spill over from their lives to bring life the life-giving power of the gospel to the lost (John 4:29, I Peter 2:9-10). Having met and been fed by Jesus, they will joyfully bring friends into the worship service to meet and be fed by Jesus (Ezekiel 47:1-12, John 7:37-39) through empowered preaching of the Word.

5. The Centrality of witness through deeds. Jesus' concern for the needy will lead to sacrificial service that comes alongside of the poor and needy and seeks to meet the needs of believers first, then unbelievers locally and globally (Galatians 6:10, Westminster Confession of Faith 26.1-2).
