St. Mary’s County Department of Aging’s Adult Day Services program is a licensed daytime health services program designed to meet the health care and social needs of adults with significant physical or cognitive challenges. Program participants are typically unable to stay home alone because of their physical or mental challenges and have complex health needs that require daily attention. Individuals usually become program participants as a result of a referral by physicians, families and caregivers or other health and social service agencies in the community.

Many program participants are eligible to have their care covered under the Medical Assistance Program. Individualized plans of care are developed by a multi-disciplinary team of health care and social work professionals to meet the restorative and maintenance needs of persons with physical, mental, and functional disabilities and to assist their caregivers in coping with the stress of providing care.
