Man Fakes Drowning; Actually Drowns 30 Minutes Later


On June 11 at 1:14 a.m., Charles County Sheriff's officers responded to a residence in the 8100 block of Lakeview Drive in Pomfret for the drowning report. Investigation revealed James Julian Jones, 29, of Seat Pleasant was swimming in the pool behind the residence with several friends. Witnesses stated Jones at one point began going under water, pretending he could not swim. When the homeowner checked on Jones, Jones said he was joking around. Approximately 30 minutes alter, witnesses located Jones unresponsive at the bottom of the pool and called 911. Emergency Medical Services personnel transported Jones to Civista Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 2:07 a.m. Jones was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy. No signs of foul play have been discovered. Det. K. Moody is investigating.
